Regina Poulard 1941 – 2019 Regina Poulard (born Fehrens) passed into new life on January 6, 2019 after an extended illness. She was 77 at the time of her passing. Born in Berlin in 1941, during World War II, Regina was the oldest of five children.

After studying as an interpreter in Germany, Regina took a chance and came to the United States in 1962, attending Otterbein College in Westerville, Ohio where she met her life partner and husband. Regina led a life of service.

After receiving a Masters Degree at the University of Pittsburgh, she moved to Chicago where she received a Doctorate in English from Loyola University and started a 30+ year teaching career at Chicago State University. She chose to teach those who needed extra help, focusing on students with remedial needs. In 1971, she became a mother giving birth to the first of two boys and in 1974, she moved, with her family, to Michiana Shores.

Upon her move to Michiana Shores, Regina was an active member of her community, a member of the Michiana Shores Park Board, participating in Cub and Boy Scout units in Michigan City, offering local children German and French lessons while continuing to teach. She also frequently helped to care for many in her community who were in need and distress on a one-to-one level. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Jean, and her two sons, Johannes and Roger, as well as three sisters in Germany and Switzerland.

She was preceded in death by her parents Alfred and Ruth, and her brother Johannes. She will be forever loved and remembered by those who knew her. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, January 11, 2019 at 12:00 pm in the First United Methodist Church, 121 E. 7th Street, Michigan City, Indiana with Pastor Nancy Nichols officiating.

Burial will follow in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens, Michigan City, Indiana. Visitation hours will be Thursday from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm in the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, Indiana and from 11:00 am Friday till the time of service at the First United Methodist Church.
