Renette Irene Close Barnett slipped away peacefully into the eternities on April 25, 2018. She passed away at home in Springville, Utah surrounded by her six loving children and husband of 41 years. Nettie, as she is called by her family and friends, was known by many and loved by all.

Nettie battled the degenerative disease, Multiple System Atrophy (MSA), for five years before the disease took her life. Nettie was born September 26, 1956 in Oxnard, California to Donald and Eivor Close. She was the third of four children.

She grew up in Camarillo, California and was an active lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Nettie met her eternal companion, Kevin, at BYU and they were married July 29, 1977 in the Los Angeles California Temple. Nettie and Kevin settled in Springville, Utah where they raised six children.

Nettie was a homemaker, entrepreneur, artist and creator extraordinaire. She was best known for her business, Nettie’s Gnomes. She created thousands of dolls and enjoyed bringing joy to her customers and making personal connections.

She also created many beautiful, amazing murals in people’s homes and businesses. Nettie had a magnetic personality and she attracted many people with her graciousness and authenticity. She was loving, kind and thoughtful.

Nettie’s creativity brought life and joy to so many things. In addition to making dolls she enjoyed gardening, decorating and especially spending time with her children and grandchildren. Her best and most favorite creation was her children.

Nettie taught her children with love and tenderness. Her family truly was her greatest joy and being with them is what completed her. Nettie is survived by her beloved eternal companion, Kevin Barnett, and her six children and their spouses: Karsten and Laura Barnett of Provo, Utah, Kameron and Emily Barnett of Boise, Idaho, Linnea and Brock Waggoner of Salem, Illinois and Kelby, Kellen and Aubrey Barnett of Springville, Utah.

She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, her parents, Don and Eivor Close, her Brothers Dermie and Calvin Close and her sister, Pam Chapman. The family would like to sincerely thank IHC Palliative and Hospice care for the loving service they provided. They would also like to give a special thanks to Tammy Poulson her hospice nurse who was exceptional in her care, compassion and support.

Open house and viewing will be held at Wheeler Mortuary in Springville, Utah 211 E. 200 S. on Friday April 27 from 6:00-8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held Saturday April 28 at 1:00 pm in the LDS Chapel in Springville, Utah 760 N. 400 E. In lieu of flowers the family has set up a Go Fund me memorial in consideration of any donations. www.
