Reverend Robert E. Owens, age 85, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2019. He was born on February 15, 1933 to the late James Robert and Ruby Givens Owens in Parma, MO but was raised in Colorado Springs, CO. Bob furthered his education at Lee University, the University of Milwaukee, and the University of Denver.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy in the Korean War. He was a pastor, author, and builder; Bob’s list of building accomplishments includes constructing 60 homes, Frebis Church of God, and a Life Center in Pulaski, VA. Bob created an extensive children’s bus ministry starting in the 60s and was always involved with the Church of God denomination.

He was a pastor in Colorado, Indiana, Virginia, Alabama, and Columbus for 33 years before he was promoted to a state bishop. As bishop, Bob’s work was ministering to 79 churches and 26 American Indian reservations including the Zuni and Navajo. Amazingly enough, during his extensive time in the ministry, he found time to author 12 books of inspiration.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, James Owens and Kenneth Owens, and sister, Delores Morris. He is survived by his wife of 64 loving years, Willa Dean Owens; sons, Robert D. (LePage) Owens and Thomas A. (Angie) Owens; daughters, Beth (Ben) Casuccio and Jo Ann Walker; 15 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; and 5 great great grandchildren; sisters, Barbara Ann (Glen) Zeitler and Doris Marie Russell; brother in law, Howard D. Manning; and a host of nieces, nephews, other dear friends and family. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at 2 PM at the Cornerstone Fellowship Church, 2740 Eastland Mall in Columbus 43232.
