OBITUARY R.G. Tanner May 4, 1944 – September 24, 2018 R.G. Tanner was born in Little Rock, Arkansas during World War II and volunteered for the army during the Vietnam War where he served as an enemy code breaker. He also spoke four languages. He spent most of his time overseas in different countries.

After the army, he married Patsy (Carroll) Tanner and they moved to Fayetteville, Arkansas where he attended Engineering School on the GI bill and by working. Patsy already had her degree and was working as a Medical Technologist at the Fayetteville VA hospital. Their first child, Amanda, was born in Fayetteville.

He graduated from the Engineering school at the University of Arkansas. After graduation they moved to DeRidder, Louisiana where they both worked for the army at Fort Polk, Louisiana. He worked as a mechanical engineer and Patsy worked as a Medical Technologist.

He was a Mechanical and Industrial engineer. While at Fort Polk he earned his pilot’s license. They had their second child, Lisa in DeRidder, Louisiana.

They then moved to Sheridan, Arkansas and they both worked for the army at the Pine Bluff Arsenal. R.G. worked as an Industrial Engineer and Patsy worked as a Medical Technologist. They had their third child, Mark while in Sheridan.

R.G. had interesting careers during his lifetime as a code breaker, Jouneyman tool and die maker, mechanical engineer, and industrial engineer, but his biggest accomplishment was helping Patsy raise three wonderful children. His favorite saying was “trust but verify”. He is survived by his wife Patsy Tanner, BS, daughter Dr. Amanda Thompson, daughter Dr. Lisa Davis, and son Dr. Mark Tanner.

He is also survived by his son-in-laws Dr. Greg Thompson, Vincent Davis, M.Ec. , and four grandchildren Haven, Nate, Pascal, and Petra. Burial will be in the Veteran Cemetery in North Little Rock, Arkansas.

The family asks that donations be made to the University of Arkansas Engineering Scholarship Fund in lieu of flowers.
