Richard Day Andrews passed away April 22, 2018. Dick was born March 1, 1940 in Portland, Oregon. The son of Edward Andrews and Jeannette (Windle) Andrews, he moved to Auburn, Washington in 1954 and graduated from Auburn High School in 1957.

He graduated from Seattle University in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and was commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army. In October 1961, he married Mary Hanify. Dick served at Ft.

Lewis 1961-1963 where their daughter, Laura, was born. In 1963 the family moved to Bellevue, WA, where their daughter, Lisa, was born. Dick worked at the University of Washington for many years, serving as the Fiscal Control Manager over building projects.

The family moved to Buckley, WA, in 1973, where Elizabeth was born. Dick served the White River School District as Business Manager from 1973 – 1976 and Superintendent from 1976 – 1993, a job he loved. In 1993 he became Business Manager for Enumclaw School District, retiring in 1998.

Dick loved gardening, especially growing dahlias and tomatoes. He also loved reading a good mystery, cheering for the Seattle Seahawks, and dabbling in investments. In his later years, he became a world traveler, however, the deck at the Whidbey Island cabin remained his favorite place.

He believed his grandchildren were remarkable, whether they were one or 31. He challenged them, mentored them, and empowered them to become marvelous adults. He loved us well.

Dick will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 56 years, Mary, and his daughters, Laura (Fred), Lisa (Russ), and Elizabeth (Terry). Dick will also be remembered by his 16 grandchildren, Andrews (Meagan), Caleb, & Madeleine Sutton, Hannah, MaryKatherine, Noah (Katie), Samuel, Isaiah, Annarose, Beza, Claire, Ebenezer, & Wogayu Qualls, Julia & Jack Carter. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Jack, and his granddaughter, Kalkidan.

A funeral mass will be said May 21, 2018 at 1:00 pm at Sacred Heart Church in Enumclaw, WA. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent in Dick’s honor to White River Community Scholarships, P.O. Box 609, Buckley, WA 98321.
