Richard A. ‘Dick’ German, 79, of Ft. Jennings, passed away Tuesday morning, January 29, 2019, at Mercy Health St. Rita’s Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of the late Mark and Marie (Brinkman) German.

He was born February 8, 1939 in Putnam County to the late George and Loretta (Neidert) German. On June 6, 1964 he married Genevieve (Gasser) German, who survives in Ft. Jennings.

Dick is also survived by five sons, David (Jodi) German of Ft. Jennings, Daniel (Angela) German of Ft. Jennings, Dale (Cheryl) German of Delphos, Douglas (Donna) German of Ottoville, and Darrin (Kari) German of Ft.

Jennings; 13 grandchildren, Gabrielle (Emma) German, Jenna (Austin Carder) German, Nathan German, Sydney (Kyle Maag) German, Trevor German, Kyle German, Emitt German, Nolan German, Shayla German, Wyatt German, Mason German, Chase German, and Jocelyn German; four sisters, Ruth (Roger) Ebbeskotte of Delphos, Helen Wehri of Ft. Jennings, Mildred Schroeder of Shelby, and Sally Bergfeld of Waterville; and a sister-in-law, Rose Ann German of Ottawa. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Elmer German; and brothers-in-law, John Wehri, Robert Schroeder, and Eugene Bergfeld.

Dick was a US Army Veteran serving from 1961 to 1963. He retired from the Ohio Department of Taxation in 1992. After retiring he worked part-time as a courier for the Commercial Bank and drove cars for Knippen Chrysler.

He and his sister-in-law, Ruth Sheeter, enjoyed making crafts and going to craft shows for over 10 years. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Dick loved his yardwork and always had a garden.

He loved to joke with everyone, and they all knew he was a practical joker. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 2 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Rev. Charles Obinwa officiating.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday at Weber Funeral Home, 1840 E. Fifth St., Delphos, where a Parish Wake Service will be held at 1:30 p.m.; and Saturday from 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Annual Pelotonia Bicycle Tour to raise money for cancer research at the OSUCCC – James.
