1936-2019 Richard Chavez, age 82, passed away peacefully in his home on January 21, 2019. We are truly blessed to have had so many wonderful years with our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle. He was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, The Belen Knights of Columbus, the Elks Lodge and the National Guard of Belen.

Richard retired from Sandia Labs on May 3, 1994, after 38 years of service. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Lupe Chavez; granddaughter, Yvette Baca; parents, Juan B. and Didia G. Chavez and his in-laws, Juan and Manuelita Garcia. Richard is survived by his children, Gina and Keith Donoghue, Betty Chavez, Tommy and Christine and Cathy and Richard; grandchildren, Theresa, John, Jessica, Jennifer, Myranda, Ashtyn, Justine, Crystalyn, Dominic, Mackie and Savannah; great-grandchildren, Mariah, Mateo, Alyssa, Bradley, Christopher, Nicholas, Illyanna, Emilio, Jaidyn, Eva, Giovanni, Phillip, Kayliana, Niyah, T.J., Kevin, Carlitos, Mia, Josiah, Melodie, Evert, Alisha, Aaron, Colter, Kyra and Selah; brothers, Pat (Jan), Marty (Jean), Rey (Louise), Billy (Lisa), Dennis (Frieda); sisters, Cipri Romero, Molly (Ben) Martinez, Susan Chavez Beasley, Dora Chavez, Lorraine Marquez and Mary Garcia.

He is also survived by Edward and Elaine Campbell and his “breakfast club” friends Dennis, Al, Tane, Mike, Larry and Jesus. Pallbearers are John Chavez, Matt Montoya, Nicholas Gallegos, Kevin Giron, Emilio Rodriguez, Albert Romero and Dennis Connelly. Honorary Pallbearers are his grand and great grandchildren.

Richard enjoyed life to the fullest, especially spending time with family and friends at Matanzas, hunting, camping and BBQ’s. He loved working in his garden, tending to his cows and visiting with everyone on his porch. Services will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, beginning on Sunday, January 27, 2019, with a Public Viewing at 3:00 PM, and a Rosary to be recited at 4:00 PM.

Final Visitation will be on Monday, January 28, 2019, at 9:00 AM, Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM and Interment to follow at Our Lady of Belen Memorial Gardens.
