Obituary for Richard D. Frasher Richard D. Frasher 87, died on May 2, 2018 at Springfield Masonic Community Home. Dick was Assistant Dean Emeritus at The Ohio State University College of Engineering, a Professional Engineer, a 60- year active Mason and a 33° Scottish Rite Mason. The son of Dempsey E. and Bessie M. (Renner) Frasher, he was born in Alliance, OH on July 22, 1930.

He was a graduate of Alliance High School and The Ohio State University with both Baccalaureate and Master’s Degrees. During his undergraduate studies he was recognized as an Engineering Dean’s Honor Scholar and initiated into Pi Tau Sigma. Mechanical Engineering Honorary, and Tau Beta Pi, Engineering Honor Societies.

After graduation, he was employed by the E.I. DuPont Co. as a research and development engineer before returning to Ohio State for graduate work and full time employment. Prior to and during his 18- year tenure as Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs, he served the College in varying capacities including Director of Continuing Education, Director of Engineering Placement, Director of Honors and Scholarships, Instructor in the Department of Engineering Graphics, Faculty Secretary and Office Manager. He also served as a College liaison to the State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Surveyors, past Chairman of the University Committee on Student Financial Aid, and advisor to numerous student organizations.

Prior to his retirement in 1994, Frasher was awarded a Meritorious Service Citation by the College of Engineering. Frasher was a former member of the Midwest College Placement Association, the American Society for Engineering Education, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the Ohio and National Societies od Professional Engineers and the Engineers Foundation of Ohio, serving the later as Treasurer and State Scholarship Chairman. Frasher was a past President of the University Optimist Club, former member of the OSU Golf Courses and past Secretary of the OSU Scarlett & Grey Golf Club, former member of the Columbus Athletic Club, and member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church of Upper Arlington.

During the Korean War )1950-54), he served in the US Navy as an Areographer and the Fleet Weather Central in Norfolk, VA and aboard the aircraft carrier USS Tarawa CVA 40. An active (60+ year) Mason, Frasher was a Past Master of Triangle Lodge #748 F&AM, Past High Priest of Community Chapter #227 RAM and Past Sovereign of St. Jerome Conclave, Red Cross of Constantine. He was also a member or former member of many other affiliated Masonic bodies.

He was a Past District Deputy Grand Master and served the Grand Lodge of Ohio as State Scholarship Chairman for many years. He was a Past Presiding Officer, former member of the Executive Committee and Secretary Emeritus of the Valley of Columbus, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite. Frasher was the recipient of a Valley of Columbus Special Merit Award and was crowned a 33° Mason in 1989.

Frasher is survived by his wife of 53 years, Gayle and their children, Scott (Sheila) Frasher of Naples, FL, Susan (Terry) Henderson of Dublin; grandchildren Rachel Bateman Smith (Nick), Daric Henderson (Susie); great grandchildren Hannah Marie Smith, Sadie Lynn Smith, Jax K. Henderson; Dick’s children Patti Frasher of Minneapolis, MN, David (Daria) Frasher of Pasadena, CA, and grandchildren Ryan Harper and Sam Harper of Minneapolis. There will be no calling hours. Instead Dick asks that you “remember him as you knew him”.
