Private family services will be held. The son of John Davis and Essie Beatrice (Telford) Davis Simmons was born March 11, 1921 in Pilot Point, TX. The family would move to several communities throughout his childhood in Texas and Oklahoma, spending a lot of time with his granddad in Waurika.

As soon as Richard was able, he started working by doing odd jobs to help support his family. He fought every day to have his education and graduated from Sand Springs High School. Richard went on to enlist in the U.S. Navy, serving for 6 years.

Most of the time he was stationed in the South Pacific Theater in Samoa during World II carrying out airplane maintenance. While on break visiting family in Ryan, OK, Richard met and fell in love with a nurse, Nettie “Hazel” Browning. They were married in Ryan, and she would follow him to where he was stationed for the rest of his enlistment.

They eventually settled in Sand Springs where they raised their three children: Walter, Janis, and Christina. Richard received training through Spartan Aeronautics, and worked as a machinist and Tool and Die Maker. He worked for American Airlines, several area job shops, and retired from Fomac Manufacturing.

He was a very intelligent man, spending 8 months making the first tool that made Ace Combs. He also created a tool for oversized models for rifles as well as many other first of their kind tools. Richard always worked hard and long hours to support his family.

After his retirement, he enjoyed repairing lawn mowers and small engine repair. Up until the age of 92, he could always be found working. Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel in 1970; his parents; and infant brother, Walter.

He is survived by his children: Christina Davis of Sapulpa, Janis Davis of Sapulpa, and Dr. Walter Davis of Muskogee; sisters: Linda Paddock and husband, Leroy, and Gerra Martin all of Sand Springs; and grandchildren: Andrew, Jamie, and Ethan E.
