Richard “Dick” H. Kratzer, 85, of 101 Sauers Drive, New Berlin, since 1996, formerly of 422 Market St, entered into rest at 9:10 a.m., Friday, June 29, 2018, at his home. He was born June 26, 1933, in Lewisburg, a son of the late Norman Clair and Clara Christobel (Long) Kratzer. On July 17, 1954, in New Berlin, he married the former Betty Jane Smith, who survives.
Richard was a 1951 graduate of Lewisburg High School. He served in the United States Navy from 1952 until his honorable discharge in 1956. Richard was employed as the Head Meat Cutter at ACME Markets, for 42 years, until he retired in 1994.
He was a member of the New Berlin American Legion Post 957, The Free and Accepted Masons Lodge 370, Mifflinburg, and served as a long-standing member of the New Berlin Municipal Authority. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Richard was an avid Penn State fan.
He also enjoyed collecting model trains, gardening, and decorating his home for the holidays. Richard was always quick with a wit, smile, hearty handshake, and a helping hand. Surviving in addition to his wife and best friend of nearly 64 years, are two sons Corey Kratzer (Carol) of Mifflinburg, and Lonnie Kratzer (Stacey) of Pottstown; one brother and sister-in-law, David and Carol Kratzer of Loyalsock; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Mary Jane and Homer Kratzer of Winfield, and Barbara Heddings of Lewisburg; two grandchildren, Nicole M. Kratzer of Lemoyne, and Kyle R. Kratzer of Pottstown; five step-grandchildren, Timothy and his wife Ashley Cummings, John Englehardt and his wife Brandy, Jennifer, Tara, and Melissa Englehardt; and one great granddaughter, Adeline Kratzer.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Guy, John, Jim, and Clair Kratzer; and one sister, Helen Kratzer. Family and friends are welcome from 11 to noon, Saturday, July 7, 2018, at the Trinity United Methodist Church, 24 State Route 304, Winfield, where a celebration of life service will be conducted at noon, with Pastor Matthew Loyer and Pastor Larry E. Siikanen, officiating. Masonic services will be conducted by the Mifflinburg F&A Masons Lodge 370.
Military honors will be conducted by the Mifflinburg American Legion Post 410 and Mifflinburg Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1964. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your choice of Hospice of Evangelical, 235 Hospital Dr, Lewisburg, PA 17837 or Trinity United Methodist Church, 24 State Route 304, Winfield, PA 17889.
