Turban 1938 – 2018 SOUTH HADLEY – Richard J. Turban, 80, died peacefully Sunday evening at Holyoke Hospital surrounded by his family who he loved wholeheartedly. Richard was born and raised in Glendale, NY, moved to Northampton as a young man, and lived in South Hadley for the past 48 years. He was a retired 36-year general foreman for Pratt & Whitney, retiring in 1992.

He served with the Barnes Air National Guard and was called to active duty with the United States Air Force during the Berlin Crisis. He was a former parishioner and leader at St. Theresa Church in South Hadley, a member of the Northampton Elks Club, a Fourth-Degree Knight for the Knights of Columbus in Fairview, and a member of the American Legion in Connecticut and Granby. A true New Englander, Richard was an avid Patriots and Boston Red Sox fan.

He loved to play golf, coach his children on the fields, and play with his grandchildren. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 48 years, Sandra (Hodge) Turban; three beloved children: Elizabeth Turban Matthews and her husband Sacha; Richard Turban and his wife Randi; and Carrie Turban Kahn and her husband Lowell. He also leaves his brother Henry Turban and his wife Janet; his sister-in-law Joan; eight beautiful grandchildren: Cole, Avery, Brianna, Dara, Parker, Chloe, Ella, and Kelsey, and many nieces and nephews.

Richard was predeceased by his parents, Anna and Peter Turban, and his older brother, Peter Turban. He will be remembered for his delightful sense of humor and his limitless capacity to give of himself. His charismatic personality brought a smile to everyone in his presence.

In return, he was surrounded by amazing friends whose care and love showed what defines lifelong friendships. The family will always be grateful to this wonderful group of friends. The world will never be the same without Richard, and while we would give anything to have more time with him, we know that he will be looking down at us with those beautiful blue eyes.
