Frey Jr., 90, died on Friday, February 22, 2019 at Mary’s Meadow in Holyoke, MA, surrounded by his family. Born on September 20, 1928 in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Robert and Elizabeth (Ruther) Frey. He attended St. Xavier High School, received his Chemical Engineering degree from The University of Detroit and his Masters of Business from American International College.
Bob served in the US Army Corps of Engineers from 1951 to 1953 and was later employed by Monsanto Chemical Co. for 32 years. Bob married Dorothy Mastaj and lived in South Hadley, MA, where they raised four children: Kathy, Laura, Bob and Patti. Upon retirement they became “snowbirds” and lived at Heritage Palms in Fort Myers, Florida for a good portion of the year.
Last year they enjoyed living at Providence Place in Holyoke, MA. Throughout his life Bob possessed a passion for the great outdoors. He enjoyed golfing at the Orchards, skiing at Mt.
Tom, playing friendly competitive Bridge (and Pitch), and camping in Maine with his family and friends. Always a fan of his home teams, the Red Sox and New England Patriots, he was happy to celebrate their big wins! He lived his catholic faith and enjoyed his church community through service as a Eucharistic minister and as a dedicated volunteer.
He will always be remembered by his friendliness, his infectious smile, and his compassionate spirit. Bob is survived by his wife Dorothy of 63 years and his four children: Kathy and her husband Bill Luchini of South Hadley; Laura Andersen of Northampton, MA; Bob and his wife Sally Ormsby of Salt Lake City, Utah; and Patti and her husband Flavio Gattinoni of Newtown, CT. Bob is also survived by his two sisters, Carole Twyman of Cincinnati, OH, and Terri Stammen of North Attelborough, MA.
He leaves his nine grandchildren: William, Robert and Peter Luchini, Kyle and Kaity Andersen, Callie and Isabel Frey, Aaron and Bridget Gattinoni as well as several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 27th starting with a calling hour at Curran-O’Brien Funeral Home, 33 Lamb St., South Hadley from 9:30 to 10:30 am followed by Mass at Saint Patrick’s Church, South Hadley at 11am. Burial in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery.
