Richard John Marks, age 71, of Butler, passed away Tuesday morning October 2, 2018 at his residence due to natural causes. Born December 5, 1946 in McKeesport, he was the son of late John and Delores Kvasnak Marks. He was a graduate of Clariton High School, and attended the Berklee College of Music, in Boston.

He was a US Army Veteran who faithfully served our country from 1966 to 1969 during Vietnam. He was in the Big Red 1 and played in the Army Band. As a young man, he worked at JCPenney’s, next drove an armored truck with money deliveries, and then worked at Butler Refrigerated Meats where he loaded trucks in the warehouse, next a supervisor, then went to driving trucks, and ended his career there as a dispatcher.

After retirement he returned to the work force as a house keeper at the Butler VA Community Living Center and he was a DJ on Doo-Wop Radio on Thursdays and Saturdays. He had a love for music and enjoyed fishing, swimming, and boating on Lake Arthur at Moraine. He is survived by his wife Darla Jayne McCandless Marks, who he married July 7, 1995; his sons John-Michael Marks and Brendan Marks, both of Butler; his siblings John (Ethel) Marks of McMurray, Annette (Bob Cotugno) Warner of Fayette City, Pam (Robert Jackson) Marks of Maryland; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother and nephew. Cremation services were entrusted to the Edward L Raisley Funeral Home, 387 Main Street, Prospect. Memorial contributions may be made to Golden Opportunities, 708 Whitestown Road, Butler PA 16001.
