Captain Richard John Reilly, USMC, OFS, was born September 24, 1928 in Cleveland, Ohio. He died age 89 in Upper Arlington. Richard graduated from St. Ignatius High School and attended John Carroll University before being selected by the NROTC and sent to the University of Wisconsin where he graduated in June 1951.

He was commissioned a second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps and was sent to the Korean War where he commanded a machine gun platoon. When the war ended, he joined the Marine Reserves and was promoted to Captain. In civilian life, he was an officer with several large insurance brokerage firms including Alexander & Alexander and Marsh & McClennan.

During his lifetime, Richard was drawn to the Franciscan Order and became professed as a Lay Franciscan. He observed his 54th anniversary with the Order in 2018. Richard is survived by his loving wife, Joy Harriman Reilly, sons Michael Reilly, Brian Reilly, Sean Reilly, and Patrick Reilly, daughters Therese Roberto and Colleen Reilly, and 13 grandchildren.

Friends may call 4-7 p.m. Friday at the Egan-Ryan Funeral Home, Northwest Chapel 4661 Kenny Rd. A Funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Andrew Church 1899 McCoy Rd.
