Richard Johnson Bass, Jr., 85, of Orange, Texas, passed away on January 19, 2019, in New Caney, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 22, 2019, at Old First Orange Baptist Church in Orange. Officiating will be Reverend Keith Meyer.

Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Monday, January 21, 2019 at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Born in Athens, Texas, on September 10, 1933, he was the son of Richard Johnson Bass, Sr. and Alli Pearl (Crouch) Bass.

Richard proudly served his country in the United States Army in the Korean War. He retired from West Orange-Cove ISD where he worked as an Industrial Arts Teacher for many years. Richard was a member of Old First Orange Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon.

He also worked with Volunteer Christian Builders, traveling across the country building churches. Richard was a member of the Industrial Arts Association, Master Carpenter, and member of Orange Lions Club. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Alli Bass; and his loving wife, Wyva Jean Bass. He is survived by his children, Deborah Cassell and Diane Huff and husband Frank; his grandchildren, Jessica Beaumont and husband Jesse, Josh Huff and wife Vicky, and Jacob Huff and wife Alissa; his great-grandchildren, Nathaniel Cason, Nissa Jeane Cason, Travis Mayhew, and Lillian Huff; and his siblings, Mary Etta Bass Brewer and Gary Bass and wife Celia. Serving as pallbearers will be Josh Huff, Jacob Huff, and Texas Rangers from Company A. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Old First Orange Baptist Church, 7925 I-10, Orange, Texas 77630 or to Volunteer Christian Builders in care of Old First Orange Baptist Church, 340 Georgia Ann Drive, Pleasanton, Texas 78064.
