Richard Lee” Dick” Hazelip, age 88 of Toronto passed away Thursday, December 13, 2018 at the Weirton Medical Center. He was born February 23, 1930 in Steubenville, OH Richard was a member of the Bell Chapel United Methodist Church; was a high school graduate; a graduate of the Police Academy and Navy training schools. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1948 and in the U.S. Navy Reserves as a Chief Petty officer from 1948 to 1972 having served a total of 27 years for his country.

He was past president of FOP Lodge # 97 of Wintersville; Toronto Masonic Lodge # 583 F. & AM; member and treasurer of the Toronto Royal Arch Masons # 221; York Rite Comradery of Steubenville; Valley of Steubenville Scottish Rite; member and 1st Vice President of theSteubenville Shriners Club; President of the Shriners Motor Club Patrol; lifetime member of the Ohio Chief of Police Association; Toronto American Legion Post #86; lifetime member of the Navel Enlisted Reserve Association; member of the Experimental Aircraft Association and had served as a special deputy for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department. Richard retired as the Chief of Police of Saline Township. He was preceded in death by his parents, George H. Hazelip and Anna G. (Riggs) Matthews; daughter, Sherry Krulik; sisters, Eileen and Beverly and brothers, Robert and Wayne and step-son, Richard Moreland.

Richard leaves behind, his wife Dolores A. “Dee” (DeLong) Hazelip whom he married November 19, 1982; sons, Reverend Ricky (Barbara) Riggs of Carrollton, OH and Donald Hazelip of Columbus, OH; daughter, Diane (Karl) Harrison of Westerville, OH; step-daughter, Taryl (Buster) Smith of Toronto and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Visitation hours for Richard will be held from 4-8 Tuesday, December 18th at the Clarke Funeral Home . A Masonic service for Richard will be held 7:30 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Full Military Honors for Richard will be held Tuesday at the funeral home before his service starts at 8 P.M. A celebration service of Richard’s life will be held 8 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Reverends Ricky Riggs and Jeff Proya officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requests for those wishing to make memorial donations they be made to the Bell Chapel United Methodist Church, 3419 State Rt. 213.
