Obituary for Richard Woodruff Crowe, Sr We have each been fortunate and blessed being a part of Dick’s life and it is with a heavy heart we share that God decided it was time for him to come home and leave this sweet world of sorrow on May 27th, 2018. We are grateful to have shared him for 85 years.
Born in Knoxville, Tennessee, on the family farm, Dick was the 2nd son of Harley and Christine Crowe. He was affectionately called “Brother” by his family. He and his family moved to Lake Worth, Florida and he graduated from Lake Worth High School in 1953.
Dick was a veteran of the Korean war, he was a Marine Engineer in the United States Army from 1953-1955. During that period his vessel was required to make periodic trips between Narsarssuak and Simiutak, Greenland. Sea conditions enroute were sometimes unpredictable; ice conditions and climatic conditions further added to the many hazards encountered by him and fellow members of the crew.
His Commander was appreciative for his unfailing loyalty and his wholehearted cooperation. PFC Crowe was honorably discharged from the United States Army Reserve in 1961. Fort Pierce Generator was founded 1960, a partnership that still exist today.
Because of the dedication and loyalty of Pete Rubalcada and Nick Rubalcada the business is still proudly serving the community with integrity. Pursuing his gifts and talents with his mechanical skills he would build his own racecars. He won many races from Fort Pierce to Eau Gallie, Florida.
He was Track Champion numerous times at the Treasure Coast Raceway. Influenced by Dick’s enthusiasm and accomplishments in all aspects of racing his brothers, nephews and son were inspired by his abilities and to this day they are still on the track. Dick Crowe’s racing parts was established in 1970 – 1980.
A force to reckoned with on and off the race track. Dick’s lifelong affair with racing and love for NASCAR would determine where he would call home, raise his family and he chose Fort Pierce. That decision would be the racing community, as we know it today.
Dick and his pals aka “Liars Club”, started 40 years ago at the Clock Restaurant meeting every morning until they became a daily fixture at McDonalds on US1 and they still congregate there today. (oh, if those walls could talk! ) He was the best dancer ever!
He is still a fan of NASCAR! He was a great fan of the Miami Dolphins. 1986 Dick promoted a professional boxing event held at the St. Lucie County Civic Center.
Dick loved “Rocky Top”, his home state of Tennessee and spent many summers there with his family when their children were young. Loved ones that cleared the path to his eternal home are his father Harley Crowe, mother Christine Crowe, brother Harley Crowe Jr. brother Frederick Crowe, sister Sue Infinger, sister Millie Perry have been waiting to welcome him home! Loved ones that will miss him until they meet again are his wife Charlene (Charlie) Crowe, daughter Jeanne Bailey, son Richard (Buzzy) Crowe Jr, daughter Cindy Crowe, mother of his children Nancy Crowe Bergenroth, brother Jimmy Crowe, brother Gary Crowe (Cherie), sister Carolyn Bryant (Lamar), sister Mary Dubrow (Len), sister Pamelia McMillen.
Grandchildren Shawn Newton, Kaityln Cerda (Andrew), and Kelly McSwain. Great granddaughter Kaylanah Newton and the most adorable great grandson Drew Cerda. Jenna aka “Boy” loved her daddy and he loved her.
She was always near him. The best pup ever! The love and support given unconditionally by the amazing women on Dick’s finally journey enabled an easier transition.
He was so blessed that God placed these beautiful souls in his life’s journey. Through the darkness God still showed him the blessings and with great care “Team Dickie” provided compassion, dignity, guidance and reassurance with love to a gentle soul. Their dedicated love for Dick was like God wrapping His arms around him and we are forever grateful for you each loving our husband, brother, father and Poppy.
