Rick Hoffman, 62, of Carroll, died Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at his home following a battle with cancer. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 22, 2019 at St. John Paul II Parish – Holy Spirit Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr.

Kevin Richter. Pianist is April Hoffman and soloist, Alyssa Walters; cross bearer is Evan Brincks; lector for the funeral mass is Denny March; gift bearers are Ron Hoffman, Barb Regynski, Jim Hoffman, and Deb Arkfeld; Eucharistic minister is Jon Schultes. Honorary casket bearers are Steve and Lori Kayser, Jim and Trudy Wittmaack, Mark and Diane Hamilton, Mike and Linda Berger, Mike and Nancy Schultes, and Mike and Val Grandgenett.

Casket bearers are Gary Brincks, Matt Greteman, Dale Hoffman, Todd Grossman, Bob Drees, and Jeff Daniel. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.

Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 4:00 p.m. on Thursday where there will be a Christian Wake Service at 7:00 p.m. The casket will be moved to Holy Spirit Church on Friday morning with additional visitation from 9:30-10:15 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left at the funeral home, church, or Commercial Savings Bank in Carroll for the Rick Hoffman Memorial Building Trade Scholarship Fund. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for Rick’s family at www. sharpfuneral.com.

Born on February 22, 1956, at Carroll, Iowa, Rick was a son of Alvin and Clara (Meiners) Hoffman. He spent his younger years in the Dedham area where he attended St. Joseph’s School and later graduated from Kuemper Catholic High School in 1974. Rick then attended the Universal Tech Institute in Omaha, Nebraska.

On September 1, 1979, Rick was united in marriage to Marilyn Kerkhoff at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Templeton. To this union two sons were born, Nick and Stephen. Rick began his working career with Drees Plumbing and Heating and later went to work as a Supervisor at American Home Shield.

On April 1, 1993, Rick began Hoffman Heating, Cooling and Plumbing which he owned and proudly operated until his recent illness. Rick had a great love for his family and thoroughly enjoyed all the time he spent with them. Rick will be remembered as a great friend who loved to socialize, with an infectious laugh, recognizable to all who knew him.

He was a member of St. John Paul II Parish – Holy Spirit Church, Men’s Club, and the Carroll Knights of Columbus. Left to celebrate his life is his wife, Marilyn Hoffman of Carroll; his sons: Nick Hoffman of Ames, and Stephen (Kim) Hoffman and their son, JJ Hoffman of Grimes; his siblings: Ron (Linda) Hoffman of Otho, Barb (Dick) Regynski of Woonsocket, South Dakota, Jim (Julie) Hoffman of Carroll, Jerry (April) Hoffman of Omaha, Nebraska, Mary (Denny) March of Clarion, Deb (Larry) Arkfeld of Omaha, Nebraska, and Terri (Jon) Schultes of Urbandale; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: John (Karen) Kerkhoff of Templeton, Janice (Dan) Hackfort of Carroll, Rose Gehling (and friend, Kevin Brinker) of Templeton, Jeanne (Dwight) Gruhn of Manning, and Julie Kerkhoff (and friend, Bob Gross) of Johnston; as well as many nieces, nephews, other extended relatives and many friends. Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Clara Hoffman; and his parents-in-law, Earl and Betty Kerkhoff.
