Obituary of Rita Barnes Rita A. Barnes (nee Lehman) Rita A. Barnes, age 81, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 23, 2018, at the home of her daughter in Channahon. Rita was born in Joliet on September 16, 1937, the daughter of the late Frank and Loretta (nee Cavanaugh) Lehman. She was a longtime resident, moving to Lander, WY for 15 years, returning home on October 9, 2018.

Retired from Joliet Central High School, she was a member of the CCW at St. Ambrose Catholic Church and the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus. Rita was voted Woman of the Year by St. Ambrose Parish. She donated much of her time laundering priest’s vestments, as well as volunteering for many of her children’s school functions.

Rita was a very avid White Sox fan and enjoyed following her grandchildren’s sporting events. Rita is survived by her six children, Catherine (Tim) Solley of Channahon, Karen Condon of Mt. Prospect, Daniel (the late Tammi) Barnes of Minot, ND, David “Bubba” Barnes of Crest Hill, Doug Barnes of Joliet and Richard “Dicky” (Christina) Barnes of Shorewood; ten grandchildren; six great grandchildren expecting number seven in December; her sister, Dolores (the late Bernard) Glenn of Joliet; and two brothers, Robert Lehman of Meridian, TX and Richard Lehman of Lander, WY.

Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded by her loving husband, William Barnes (1998). A visitation for Rita A. Barnes will be held on Sunday, October 28, 2018, from 2:00 until 7:00 p.m., at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday at 10:15 a.m. from the funeral home chapel to St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 1711 Burry Circle Dr., Crest Hill, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Joliet. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Coal City Elementary School Autism Program, in care of Miss Condon, or Faulkner Baseball of Montgomery, AL would be appreciated.
