Robert A. Hanamirian, 80, of Philadelphia and New York, passed on June 25, 2018 at his home in New York City. He is survived by his sister Hasmig Hanamirian, his first cousin Don Lulejian, his son John Hanamirian, and his granddaughters Ella and Vani Hanamirian. He was preceded in death by his daughter Deborah Hanamirian.

Robert was an International Tax Lawyer with Kranjac Tripodi, LLP on Wall Street in New York City and practiced until his passing. Robert has a deep history in the Philadelphia community starting with his parents immigrating in 1920 as refugees from the Armenian Genocide. Robert spoke Armenian as his first language and worked his way through college at Temple University and thereafter, Temple Law School.

The older Philadelphia law firms at that time would not hire Armenians or Jews and so Robert, despite being first in his class at Temple Law School, worked as a paralegal during law school and was thereafter hired by Schnaeder, Harrison, Segal and Lewis as an associate attorney. Robert was married to Pauline Kash, of Melrose Park, for more than twenty years and had two children, John and the late Deborah. John is a civil and criminal tax and other white collar crime defense attorney and his two daughters, Ella and Vani, are both students at Moorestown Friends School.

John resides in Moorestown. Deborah lived in the Inglis House on City Line Avenue before she passed away from complications associated with her nearly life-long struggle with Multiple Sclerosis. Robert’s parents escaped persecution and lived in China for a number of years before reaching the United States.

In the United States the Hanamirian family owned what was then known as the York Market in Chestnut Hill and ultimately ventured into a frozen middle eastern foods venture. Since that time, law has become the family business as Robert’s son, John, and Robert’s brother Arsen (Arthur) Hanamirian’s children, Mark (Dorothy), Michael (Carol) and Lisa (David) are all licensed practicing attorneys in Philadelphia and the surrounding area. Robert loved animals and particularly, dogs, and his son John is caring for his 11 year old German Shepherd, Toby.

Robert desired cremation and so a graveside Interment will take place on July 23, 2018 at 10:00A at Lawnview Cemetery, 500 Huntingdon Pike Rockledge, PA 19046 with a luncheon to follow at Holy Trinity Armenian Apostolic Church in Cheltenham PA. . Arrangements by John J. Bryers Funeral Home, www.
