Robert A Stemple, November 26, 1936 — April 26, 2018

Obituary for Robert A. Stemple Bob was born in Elmhurst, IL on November 26, 1936 to Russell and Lucille (Dwelly) Stemple. Bob graduated York High School in Elmhurst, Ill. He attended Elmhurst College where he met Gretchen.

Bob and Gretchen wed in 1960. Bob was proud to be a marine. He also served as an Army Reservist where he learned how to fly.

He retired from his dream career with united Airlines where he served as a Pilot for 32 years. In the course of his career, Bob traveled the world never meeting a stranger. His children remember their dad making life fun.

From cars, motorcycles, boats and spontaneous vacations. But more than that, compassion of the heart. He enjoyed many things – friends, boats, Hawaii, the ocean, skiing, mountains, crosswords, good food, cold beer, and above all, his family.

Bob was renowned for giving all who would listen, advice. Some might say, “It’s Bobs way-or no way”! Bob had a passion for his Marine Scholarship foundation, Honoring Marines by education their children.

He also had a deep comradery among his Marine family, evident in Bob’s last eleven weeks. Tremendous and heartfelt thanks go to the truly exceptional friends and neighbors. We sincerely appreciate the effort of Janice and Dawn, along with hospice, who provided a compassionate environment for Bob and the entire family.

Bob is survived by his wife Gretchen, three children, Julie (Scott) Barnes, Andy (Jodi) Stemple, and Suzanne (Frieder) Seible; grandchildren Lacey (Bobby) Linden and Taylor Barnes, August, Makena and Milo Stemple, one great grandchild Chase Linden and another to arrive in Jule; one niece and several nephews; brother Russell, and Sisters Bonnie and Barbara Stemple. Bob was 81 years of age and was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Bing. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in honor of Bob to the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation, or, gather at your favorite restaurant or bar and tell a few stories of the great Robert Stemple!
