Obituary for Robert “Bob” G. Moran Robert “Bob” G. Moran, age 75 of Elmira, NY passed away on Friday, September 14, 2018 in Cleveland, OH with his family by his side. Bob was predeceased by his parents, George Moran, Sr. and Patricia Hughes Moran; brother, David Moran; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dave and Velma Horner. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Mariann L. Moran; son, Lee M. Moran; three awesome grandchildren, Jeffrey, Megan and Molly Moran; siblings, George (Rhoda) Moran, Jr., Mary Kay Moran, Sue Bright, and John Moran; sister-in-law, Cindy Moran; extended family, Dorothy Lewis and family; along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Bob was a lifelong resident of Elmira. He was a proud US Navy Veteran serving from 1961 to 1965. He worked many years as a radio announcer and in television production and sales with WELM and WSYE.

After leaving his life in media, Bob began his law enforcement career with the West Elmira Police Department then moving to the Elmira Police Department. He served his community for 27 years as a patrolman, a teacher of Individual Freedom and Law, a STOP- DWI team member, and was the area’s first DARE Officer. Bob enjoyed giving to his community by volunteering.

He was an avid Scouter and Challenger Little League announcer. He was a long time member of the Westside United Methodist Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Bob’s life revolved around his grandchildren! Bob had a great sense of humor with a very upbeat spirit. He touched many lives in his community, no matter what walk of life they came from.

Bob was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend who was loved by many and will be forgotten by few. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the NYS District 6 Challenger Little League, P.O. Box 1044, Elmira, NY 14902. Special thanks go out to the caring staffs of the Arnot Ogden Medical Center and, Cleveland Clinic G-62 Pulmonary ICU, for their excellent care and compassion.

The family would also like to thank the Elmira Police Department, Chemung County Sheriff’s Department, and NYS Police for bringing Bob home with an honor escort. Family and friends are invited to call at Olthof Funeral Home, 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue, Elmira on Friday, September 21, 2018 from 2 pm to 4 pm and from 7 pm to 9 pm. A celebration of Bob’s life will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at Westside United Methodist Church, 743 West 1st Street, Elmira at 10 am.
