Dr. Robert C. Sherwin, December 1, 1932- May 21, 2018, age 85 of Hamilton, passed away peacefully at his Dayton St. home on Monday, May 21st, 2018 surrounded by family. He was a grand gentleman who will be missed by many people. Bob was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Rose Turczynski and Casimir Czerwinski.

He shortened his name to “Sherwin” when he started teaching at Miami in 1962 as he was afraid the students wouldn’t take his class if they couldn’t pronounce his name. He served in Korea with the Air Force from 1951-1954 and then attended college to become a Professor. He retired from Miami University after 42 years of teaching in the Sociology Department and was well respected by his colleagues and students.

He had a passion for teaching and then later in life his passion became the renovation and restoration of Dayton Lane’s Historical District and the society that supports it. He and his partner, Dr. Sherry Corbett was instrumental in the renovation of Dayton Lane. He loved the older homes being actively restored, maintained and lived in.

He thrived on the whole process and he could be seen often up on ladders doing the work himself! He had a positive outlook on life and knew how to focus on the “good”. He will always be remembered as an amazing Educator, Father, Grandfather and Leader in the Hamilton Historic renovation progress as well as a lifelong Green Bay Packers fan!
