Houston – On September 16, 2018, Robert E. Southard, Jr. went home to be with his wife and our Lord and Savior. Mr. Southard was born on December 2, 1929 in Milford, DE to Robert, Sr. and Elizabeth Southard. In his younger years Robert worked as a Brick Mason for Oscar Taylor and tilled the Dickerson and Donavan Farms.

He was a member of the Milford V.F.W. Mr. Southard tended to Purple Martins, making sure that every year they had their nests at his farm. He loved to fly and got his pilot’s license.

He was known also for his steel guitar playing in his country band, “The Country Boys”. Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Helen L. Southard and his son, Robert E. Southard, III. He is survived by his daughter and her husband, Connie and Wayne Reed, of Lincoln; his son and his wife, Ronnie and Melody Southard of Salisbury, MD; his daughter-in-law, Jeanette Ann Southard of Milford; eight grandchildren, Patricia Cahall and her husband Glen John, Wayne Reed and his wife Fran, Robert E. Southard, IV and his fiancé Crystal Quillen, Tina Wilkins and her husband Dustin, Derek Reed, Ashley Spera and her husband Steve, Victoria Southard, and Harrison Southard; and seven great grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors at Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave, Milford, from 10 – 11AM on Friday 9/21, with a funeral service at 11AM. Burial will be Lincoln Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
