Robert’s Obituary Ishpeming – Robert E. Waters, age 93, longtime Ishpeming resident, passed away at 4:43 PM on Monday, February 25, 2019 at his home with his sons by his side. Bob was born in Negaunee on November 24, 1925, son of the late Laura L.W. (Williams) and W. Gordon Waters. He was a graduate of the Negaunee High, Class of 1943.
He served in the U.S. Army stateside during World War II from 1944-1946. “Wet” as he was known by in his younger years returned to this area following his honorable discharge. He married Lois Glanville on August 6, 1949 and together they raised their 4 sons.
Bob worked for the Cleveland Cliffs Iron Co. for 39 years as an accountant / purchasing agent at various local miles retiring in 1985. Bob was an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church, having served on the church council for several years along with the finance committee. He had also been a member at the Ishpeming Elks, Wawonowin Country Club where he enjoyed golfing along with bowling in local bowling leagues.
Bob and Lois cherished time spent camping in the summer months with family and friends. Bob was a fixture at his grandchildren’s activities and events throughout the years. Bob is survived by three sons: Brian (Linda) Waters of Ishpeming; Bob Waters of Marquette and Steve (Lori) Waters of Negaunee; daughter-in-law: Coleen Waters of Ishpeming; 5 grandchildren: Sarah (Roger) Riutta of Gouverneur, NY, Rebecca (Mark) Korpi of Ishpeming, Robert Waters of Chicago, IL, Brad Waters of Ishpeming and May Waters of Negaunee, 6 great grandchildren: Abigail, Elizabeth, William, Emma, Evelyn Riutta, and Hattie Korpi, with one more expected; brother and sister-in-law: Clifford and Midge Waters of Negaunee; brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Ken and Hyun Glanville of Bonita, CA: along with several nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife Lois Waters in 2012, a son Bill Waters in 2014 and sister Bernice Williams. The family will greet relatives and friends from 10:00am – 11:30 AM on Monday March 4, 2019 at the Wesley United Methodist Church. Funeral Service will follow at 11:30 AM Monday, March 4, 2019 at Wesley United Methodist Church with Rev.
Matthew Osborne officiating. A luncheon will follow the ser4vices in the church hall. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
