Robert Estes Cundiff, 89, of North Vernon, passed away at 6:08 p.m. on Monday, May 13, 2019, at Majestic Health Care Center in North Vernon. Born May 8, 1930, in Columbia, Kentucky, he was the son of Robert and Lalie (Franklin) Cundiff. He married Anna Mae Kuntz on April 1, 1950 in North Vernon.

She preceded him in death on October 11, 2006. Mr. Cundiff worked as a security guard for the former Muscatatuck State Developmental Center in Butlerville for 36 years before retiring in 1992 and was a bus driver for Jennings County Schools for 26 years. He was a 50 plus year member of North Vernon Masonic Lodge #59 and attended Otter Creek Baptist Church.

Mr. Cundiff enjoyed playing guitar, singing, and listening to Sunday morning gospel. He played on the Grand Ole Opry with Johnny Cash and Minnie Pearl and recorded records. Survivors include his sons, Terry Lee (Darlene) Cundiff of North Vernon, Kerry Dale (Connie) Cundiff of Liberty, Kentucky and Robert Lynn Cundiff of Louisville, Kentucky; daughters, Judith Ann (Reggi) Ross and Pamela J. (Billy) Gosman, both of North Vernon; brothers, L.T. “Joe” (Ruby) Cundiff of Scottsville, Kentucky and Elwood Cundiff of Louisville, Kentucky; grandchildren, David (Kim) Thomas and Derek Gosman, both of North Vernon, Amanda Earl of Scipio, Rebecca (Josh) Gatewood of Westport, Kara Gosman of Westfield, Darin (Rachyl) Cundiff of Liberty, Kentucky, and Sean (Lacey) Cundiff of Lancaster, Kentucky; and eleven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brothers, Stanley and Ralph Cundiff; and sister, Ruby Chelf. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2019, at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service with the Rev. Marvin Wright officiating.

Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, May 17, 2019, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Masonic memorial service will be conducted by member of North Vernon Masonic Lodge at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 17, 2019. Burial will be in the Butlerville Cemetery in Butlerville.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Our Hospice of Jennings County.
