Robert Floyd McCain, 74, of Wilmot, passed away, Saturday, June 2, 2018 at his home with his family by his side. Mr. McCain was a native and life long resident of Wilmot and a member of the Wilmot United Methodist Church. He served for several years on the Montrose Academy School Board.

He also served on the Wilmot City Council from 1978 until 1986 and again from 2009 until 2015, when he resigned due to health reasons. He farmed for many years and in 1991, he went to work for Ashley County as the delta road supervisor for 26 years. Mr. McCain enjoyed all sports.

He helped coach both of his sons in the summer league baseball program and went to state tournaments as a coach. A licensed referee in Arkansas and Mississippi, he called baseball, basketball and football games for many years. He was a loving husband, devoted father, papaw and true friend.

He is preceded in death by his parents, James Fred & Blanch Tubbs McCain; two brothers, Jerry and Jackie Edward McCain and a sister, Estelle McCain. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Corliss Sammons McCain of Wilmot; two sons, Robert Floyd McCain, Jr. and wife, Tafta, of Lake Village and Henry Fred McCain of Jonesboro; two brothers, JL McCain of Hamburg and Thomas McCain of Midland, Texas; three grandchildren, Sydney Catherine McCain of Lake Village, Taylor Marie McCain of Hamburg and Robert Tayte McCain of Warren and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services are 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at the Wilmot United Methodist Church with Bro.

Carlos Pitts officiating. Burial will be in the Dry Bayou Cemetery. Pallbearers are David Booth, Toby Terry, Hubert “Bubba” Carpenter, Darrell Clifton, Emory Austin and Frankie Martin.

Honorary pallbearers are Butch Martin, Brad Hayes, Steve Otwell, Keith Taylor and Bryan Culp. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, PO Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101-9929, the Dry Bayou Cemetery Association, c/o Corliss McCain, 3041 HWY 52 E., Wilmot, AR 71676 or the donor’s choice. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Monday at the funeral home.
