Funeral services for Robert G. “Bob” Bals, 95, of Madison will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Madison. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted by the Nebraska National Guard Honor Guard, American Legion Post 35, and VFW Post 5763.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. at Resseguie Funeral Home. Bob died Sunday, March 3, 2019 at Countryside Home in Madison. Robert was born on December 16, 1923 in Madison County to Fred and Alma (Kloke) Bals.

He was raised on the farm and graduated from Madison High School. After graduation, he joined the army where he proudly served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Bob married Maxine Sohl on April 3, 1948 at St. Leonard’s Catholic Church Rectory.

Four children were born to this union. The couple farmed until moving into Madison in 1969. He then worked at the elevator, Central Sand and Gravel, and later drove truck for Nucor Steel.

Bob was an avid sports lover, especially when it came to baseball. He played legion ball for many years and loved watching all of his children and grandchildren’s sporting activities. He is survived by his children Gail (Bob) Johnson of Osceola, Debbie (Steven) Murphy of Bellwood, Bob (Pam) Bals of Madison, son in-law Duane Zessin of Madison, sister Mary Ann Byfield of Omaha, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Maxine, daughter Carol Zessin, great grandson Colton James Heuer, brother Bill Bals, and sister Berneda Burns.
