Obituary for Robert L. “Pete” Myers Pete was born on April 26, 1939, the fourth of eight children born to Elsie Childress Myers and Marion Myers of Elkwood. Pete graduated from Culpeper County High School in 1957. Shortly thereafter Pete began working for VDOT in Culpeper as timekeeper on a bridge crew.

He soon transferred to Richmond where he traveled the state for VDOT and mapped roads. After mapping roads Pete spent the remainder of his time at VDOT in the Richmond accounting offices. Pete returned to Culpeper County in 1972 to help with the family business, Myers Grocery.

For 40+ years, Pete was the face of Myers Grocery and after his father’s death he became the sole proprietor. Pete was an avid sportsman, both as a player and a spectator. In his younger years he played third base and shortstop for the Myersville baseball team.

Playing the same positions, he earned many trophies while playing for the Myersville softball team a little later on. When he lived and worked in Richmond, Pete played softball for the Richmond VDOT Highway League, again earning trophies and MVP for two years in a row. Pete also served active duty time, beginning in 1962, in both the United States Army and Army National Guard where he earned marksmanship metals.

Pete is preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Elsie Myers. He is survived by his seven siblings: Marion William Myers, Jr. (Fran) of Fredericksburg; Virginia Myers Williams of Elkwood; Shelby Myers Hicks (Jim) of Culpeper; Nancy Myers Weaver (Jim) of Elkwood; Dianne Myers Thomas-Smith (Bob) of Elkwood; Larry Wayne Myers (Betty) of Elkwood; Deborah Myers Martin (Bob) of Richardsville. Pete was also blessed to have a large assortment of attentive and close nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Hopewell United Methodist Church, 23557 Lignum Road, Lignum, VA 22726. Friends and family visitation time will be 10 a.m., one hour before the funeral. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Steve Williams, Rick Hicks, Blair Thomas, L. W. Myers, Frank Twomey, Jeremy Kincheloe and Darryl Myers. Honorary pallbearers will be Lenny Williams and Jay Weaver. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hopewell United Methodist Church Maintenance Fund, PO Box 87, Lignum, VA 22726 where Pete was a life long member or the American Cancer Society and mailed to the church at the above address.
