Robert Orthello Wiley quietly left his earthly home on September 29, 2018, in his home with his family by his side. Bob was born on February 7, 1934 in Panguitch, Utah to Rudgar Orthello Wiley and Sarah Ann Talbot Wiley. He was the 2nd of five children, with an older sister, Louise and three younger brothers, Richard, James, and Carl.
For the first 12 years of his life he lived in Lynndyl Utah. When he was thirteen years old his father was hurt in an accident and the family moved to Springville where Rudgar could work for Springville Power Company. Bob graduated from Springville High school in 1952 and he went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad.
He retired from there after 43 years. He fell in love and married Kaye Johnson August 10, 1956 in Springville Utah. In 1957 he was drafted into the army and spent two years at Fort Eustist in Virginia working for the army railroad in shipping.
They lived in Williamsburg, Virginia where they met a wonderful family named Waltrip and became great friends and still are today. After being discharged they moved back to Springville where Bob went to work for the railroad. They had 4 children: JoElll, Margo, Paige and Layne and began their life of working and raising a family.
Bob was always interested in bowling and was on a championship team for many years with his brothers, Dick and Jim, and two friends. He loved Hobble Creek Canyon. He loved to hunt and hike with his Brothers and later with his son, Layne and sons-in-laws, Bret and Darin and grandsons too.
After he retired, he and Kaye traveled with friends on cruises and flights but their greatest love was to take their truck and camper and travel wherever they wanted; mostly the United States, Canada and Alaska. They camped for more than 30 years with kids, grandkids and great grandkids at Yuba Reservoir. Most of the kids learned to waterski, tube and they even had slide shows and pinatas.
Bob loved to fish. Especially Strawberry Reservoir. The last few years He spent several days a week with his friend, and brother-in-law Ted, and Darin, Layne and anyone lucky enough to go.
He worked at Diamonds Greenhouse with friends, planting the beautiful pots we all have on our porches or at store fronts. He had many good hours and times with them. He loved his family and helped each one of them build, repair, paint, and maintain their homes.
He wanted them to always live clean, honest and productive lives and to never do anything that would harm or hurt others. He is survived by his wife, Kaye, of 62 years. Children JoEll Finch, Margo Whittier (Bret), Paige Dibble (Darin) and Layne Wiley.
Eleven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, a sister- in- law, Betty Wiley and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by: both parents, all of his siblings, his in-laws, and one son-in- law, Evan Crandall. A viewing will be held on Thursday, October 4, 2018 from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 East 200 South in Springville.
