Robert (Bob) Thompson, age 89, of Ontonagon passed away July 19, 2018. He was born in Pontiac, Michigan on November 23, 1928 to the late Orville “Red” Thompson and Rhea L. Clark He attended Pontiac High School and graduated from Pontiac Motors Trade School. He served as a Sergeant in the US Army, and was a veteran of the Korean War.

He married Virginia M Sanford (Gobler) and they lived with their children in Waterford, Michigan. He was a Tool & Die Maker at Pontiac Motors for 43 years. He retired in 1988, to a home that he built in Goodrich, Michigan.

Bob moved to Ontonagon in 2003 where he resided for his remaining years. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, and enjoyed walking and riding his ATV. He had a love of old cars and raced them in his younger years.

He had many close life long friends. He is survived by his daughters, Terry Hillman of Greenville, SC, Rebecca Thompson (Dan) of Sierraville, CA, step-daughters, Anne Flahaven (Bruce) of Pahrump, NV, and Victoria Joy of Ft. Bragg, CA.

, grandsons Brian Hillman and Taj Shieva, and his girlfriend Julie Takala. He was preceded in death by his wife Ginny, his sister Cornelia Peterson, and step-son Steven P Gobler Visitation and gathering along with memorial service and military rites will be held Saturday August 4, 2018, 11:00 AM at Cane Funeral Home in Ontonagon, MI.
