Obituary for Robert Theodore Zweng Robert Theodore Zweng, age 80, of East China Twp. , passed away in his home with his family at his side on November 24, 2018. He was born March 23, 1938 to Theodore and Helen (Danneels) Zweng.
On May 4, 1963 Robert married Mary Lou Springborn at Holy Cross Church. Bob was employed at General Motors for 36 years. Following retirement he worked 8 years at Blue Water Plastics in Marysville.
He was awarded Employee of the Year at General Motors and was selected to attend a special management program for executives at the University of Pittsburgh. There were people from around the world in attendance. He was the first Eucharistic Minister and Lector chosen at Holy Cross Church many years ago.
Bob also served on many committees and fund raisers for over 50 years. He loved his faith and Holy Cross Church and believed in always doing things to help others. Bob is Past Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus Council #856, Marine City.
He also is Past President of St. Vincent de Paul Society. Bob also enjoyed working Tuesday bingo in Marysville for Holy Cross School. He loved deer hunting, snowmobiling, gardening, and cherished his time spent with his family.
Bob is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Lou Zweng; daughters, Michelle (Todd) Stone and Stephanie Zweng; grandchildren, Caleb and Kristen Stone; brother, Bill (Betty) Zweng; brothers in law and sister in law, Alvoy Westrick and Tom and Maurine Springborn; Uncles, Harold (Joann) Danneels and Bill (Margaret) Danneels and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Helen; sister, Marilyn Westrick; brother in law and sister in law, Jim and Ruth Ann Springborn and nephew, Jimmy Springborn. Funeral Mass will be Thursday November 29th at 12:00 p.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church, OLR Parish, Marine City.
Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Visiting hours are Wednesday 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Young Funeral Home, China Twp. and Thursday at church one hour prior to mass.
