ROBERT THOMAS REAVES age 80, of 214 Salem Pond Drive, Hurdle Mills, NC died Tuesday afternoon, May 14, 2019 at his home. Mr. Reaves was born February 12, 1939 in Person County, NC son of the late Acey Banks & Wiloree Wrenn Reaves and was husband of nearly 61 years to Hannah Blanks Reaves who survives. He was retired from Owens Corning after 38 years of service and was a member of Salem United Methodist Church.

Robert, also known to many as Papa Robert, Pops, and Rabbit, enjoyed playing baseball, softball, hunting, fishing, golfing, planting and tending to his garden, and he loved his “Big Reaves Family”. Surviving in addition to his wife are four children, DeWayne T. Reaves of the home, Robin R. Horner & husband, Kelly, Bonnie R. Vachieri all of Roxboro, NC, David B. Reaves & wife, Rorie of Timberlake, NC, six grandchildren, Brittany Ashworth & husband, Hunter, Blaine Vachieri & wife, Samantha, Keaton Horner, Blanks Vachieri, Cheyenne Reaves, Acea Reaves, four brothers, Richard Reaves, Willie Reaves & wife, Kathy, Jerry Reaves & wife, Robbie, Bobby Reaves & wife, Vonnie, two sisters, Carolyn Ellis & husband, Phillip, Dorothy Chambers & husband, Kenneth, and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Reaves is preceded in death by three brothers, Eugene Reaves, William Reaves, Michael Reaves, sister, Juanita Mangum, son-in-law, Edmund Vachieri, and sister-in-law, Betty Reaves.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 17, 2019 at Salem United Methodist Church with the Rev. Renee Burnette officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends and guests Thursday, May 16, 2019 from 6:00 till 8:00 p.m. at Strickland and Jones Funeral Services and other times at the home. Pallbearers will be Keith Chambers, Bill Claypool, Malcom “Buddy” Edge, Charlie Palmer, Ricky Palmer, Allen Reaves, Joey Reaves, Ray Reaves, Todd Reaves, and Donald Walker. Flowers are acceptable or memorial contributions may be made to the Salem United Methodist Church General Fund, 933 Salem Church Road, Hurdle Mills, NC 27541 or the Alzheimer’s Association, 5171 Glenwood Ave.
