Roberta Bert Filkins, August 12, 1943 — May 02, 2019

Roberta “Bert” L. Filkins, 75, of Alda, passed away surrounded by the love of her husband and family on Thursday, May 2, 2019. Celebration of Life services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday at All Faiths Funeral Home. Gathering of friends and family will take place an hour prior.

Dan Naranjo will officiate. All Faiths Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements. Bert was born on August 12, 1943 in Grand Island, daughter of William and Catherine (Humphrey) Shaver.

She was a member of the 1961 graduating class of Grand Island Senior High. She was employed for many years at JBS as a quality control inspector. On October 23, 1982 she married the love of her life, Don Filkins.

Over the last 36 years Don and Bert have built a loving marriage. Don was her rock, her support, and caregiver. Bert had many talents that she shared with friends and family throughout her life.

Even after a long day, Bert found peace in her garden loving the bright springtime flowers. Her skills as a seamstress blessed her family with Halloween costumes, bridesmaids’ dresses, outfits to wear with Don during his black powder shoots, and special pillows for each family member with their name. She had so much love to give to her family and furry four-legged friends.

Bert’s journey in life had many trials and challenges, with the love of Don and family she overcame them all. Her memory is cherished by her husband, Don; children, Jennifer “Jenny” Kempffer of Grand Island, William “Billy” (Sheila) Keck of Lincoln; step-sons, Donald and Jeffrey; 14 grandchildren, Jason, Eric, Amber, Terry, Scott, Tyler, Cody, Gabby, Darian, Brey, Damon, McKenna, Andrew and Grey; 12 great-grandchildren, JJ, Kyle, Johnnie, Dom, McKenzie, Jakobe, Jaxon, Gavin, Lyric, Kason, Wess, and Parker; siblings, Nancy Shaver Starr of Anaheim, CA, Julianne Newlun of Lincoln, and Thomas (Linda) Shaver of Grand Island; along with numerous extended family and friends. Bert was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Bill; daughters, Victoria “Vicki” Trejo and Stephanie Thomsen; grandson, Riley Keck and beloved dog, Sargent Dork.
