Obituary for Roberta Oaks (Burns) Roberta Inez Oaks, 94, passed away in Alamosa, Colorado at the San Luis Valley Health Regional Medical Center on Tuesday, April 3, 2018. She was born on March 30, 1924 in Caledonia, Mississippi to John and Iris (Arnold) Burns. She married the love of her life, Floyd B. Oaks Sr., on March 7, 1947 in Gunnison, Mississippi.

Inez was a very caring woman. She never hesitated to donate her time and abilities to help the community. All the way up to her passing, she would work every Saturday for a few hours at the local Welcome Center.

When she was home she loved to sew, whether it be sewing patches on britches, huck-weaving or making a new dress. She enjoyed keeping her hands busy with a needle and thread. She was a caring woman and no one would ever question that she was able to work hard.

She even helped during the war efforts of World War II working on airplanes as a riveter. Her work ethic translated into an education back ground when she graduated from Delta State College in Mississippi. She never stopped learning, finally getting her Masters Degree in Education at Adams State College and then dedicating 32 years of her life to teaching the young kids of the San Luis Valley.

Inez was known by her family as being an amazing cook. She had the uncanny ability for being able to make meals for large groups at the drop of a hat. She truly loved the family get togethers and with the help of her family and friends, would make sure that everyone had plenty of good food, a comfortable bed and fun/enjoyment during their travels.

She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren more than words can describe. They truly were one of the many lights she had in her life along with traveling far and wide with her husband. Roberta is survived by her children: Floyd (Jody) Oaks Jr. and Gerald Oaks of Alamosa; her grandchildren: Jared Oaks (Michelle) of Grand Junction, Jessica Williams (Kevin) and Chad Oaks (Ajia) of Henderson, NV, Amy Oaks (Jesse) and Eric Oaks (Kelsey) of Alamosa; and great-grandchildren Cayden Williams, Odin Oaks, and Keira Oaks.

She is also survived by her siblings: Allene Oaks, Mary Lillard, Anna (Tom) Powell, and Sarah Hubbard; her sister in laws: Elah Marie (Don) Still, Alice Burns and Faye Berry as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Iris Burns, her loving husband, Floyd Oaks Sr., as well as three sisters and 2 brothers. Cremation was chosen and entrusted to Rogers Family Mortuary in Alamosa.
