Obituary of Robert Reading Robert (Bob) H. Reading (age 95) of Lynden, WA entered into rest on June 12, 2018 surrounded by his family. Bob was born on November 06, 1922 in London, Ontario Canada to James and Kate (Ball). He graduated from high school in Winnipeg and entered into the Canadian Military in August 1939.

During his career in the army, Bob reached the rank of Sergeant. He was stationed overseas and received the France and German Star, Defense Medal, United Nations Medal, CVSM, War Medal 1939-1945 and the Canadian Forces Medal. Bob was stationed at many Theaters of Service during his career including, Canada, United Kingdom, Continental Europe, Far East, France, Germany, Holland, Korea and Japan.

After his military career, Bob worked for the Georgia Pacific Company as a purchasing agent, retiring in 1987 after 25 years of service. After his marriage, Bob married Doreen (Senft) on October 17, 1987 in North Vancouver, B.C. Canada. They celebrated their 31st year of marriage.

Bob was a member of the American Legion, Fairhaven Lions Club and Raspberry Ridge Golf Course. During his years of membership at the Lions Club, he enjoyed playing Santa. The best and most enjoyable memories for Bob was making his Santa tapes from the North Pole and being with family and friend.

When not playing Santa, Bob loved to Golf at Raspberry Ridge Golf Course with his many friends. Golf was his pastime and he helped to organize fun tournaments and outings. He enjoyed like many others, Christmas, happy hours and pot lucks and traveling.

However, Bob and Doreen loved to dance and sing together; and for many years they were at Bobby Lees Tavern a piano bar together. Bob “Teller of Tall Tales” was a great story teller and loved hearing or telling a good joke. Most of all, he will be remembered for his loving and caring personality and his love of “BIG HUGS”!

Bob is survived by his wife Doreen; Son, Martin (Patricia) of Farmington, NM, Step-son, John (Jennifer Schmidt) Sweica of B.C. Canada; Step-Daughter, Lauralee (Ron) Fraser of Maple Ridge, B.C. Canada; grandchildren, Tamara Shepert (was always there for her grandpa), Candace Derenewski, Step-Grandchildren, Drew, Jacob Schmidt, William and Emily Fraser; Great Grandchildren, Julie, Kira, Zack and Tyler; four Step-Grandchildren; nephew, Richard (Adeline) Sellwood of Manitoba, Canada; nieces, Penny Rannard of Manitoba, Canada, Denny Atamachuk of Ontario, Canada and Jane Sellwood of B.C. Canada. Special in-laws Monica and Art and their families, Tara Shannon, Glenn and their children-Lots of Love and fun. Bob is preceded in death by his sisters, Nelsie and Ally and one brother, Jim.

At Bob’s request, there will be no services held. A gathering of family and friends will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be given in Bobs name to Good Samaritan Society – Stafholt 456 C St, Blaine, WA 98230 or Whatcom Hospice.
