Rodger A. Vergane, 79, of Colona, passed away Thursday, November 15, 2018, at Park Vista, East Moline. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m., Sunday, November 18, 2018, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m., Sunday prior to the services at the funeral home.

Cremation will take place following services and private inurnment will be held at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Rodger was born on January 29, 1939, in Moline, the son of Howard and Mabel (Nicholson) Vergane.

He married Joyce M. Vroman on June 12, 1971, in East Moline. She preceded him in death on February 26, 2015. Rodger retired as a driver from United Parcel Service in 1994.

Rodger was a U.S. Veteran serving in the Army and was a member of the Colona American Legion. He was a member of the Lost Dutchmen Mining Association, the NRA, and attended church at The Gathering in Moline. Rodger was an avid poker player and an amateur prospector, a hobby he took up after retirement.

He was also a NASCAR fan and a stock car driver. Above all, he loved to attend his grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s sporting events. Survivors include his children, David (Betty) Vergane, Daytona, IN, Rita (Donald) Dickey, Colona, Patricia Luecke (Kurt), Rock Island, and Margaret (Tim) Finch, Milan; 6 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 2 step great grandchildren; father who raised Rodger since he was 10, Robert Mitchell, Moline; brothers, Stephen Vergane, Moline; and Michael (Sheryl) Vergane, Atkinson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce; father, Howard; mother, Mabel Mitchell; and his son, Robert. Memories may be shared on the tribute wall.
