Born May 25, 1930 at home in Shawano, WI named after late Roger Cantwell MD who delivered him, passed peacefully at Homme Home March 5, 2019. Roger attended elementary school in Shawano and Antigo, graduating from Antigo High School in 1948 where he quarterbacked the football team. He attended Sacramento State College, UW-Stevens Point, and graduated from UW-Madison School of Pharmacy in 1958.

On August 10, 1958, he was united in marriage to Kay Kuester at Bethel Lutheran Church in Madison, WI. Roger practiced pharmacy in Madison, Stoughton, and St. Vincent Hospital -Green Bay. He then worked for Parke Davis for several years and purchased Olk Drug in Antigo in 1963.

Later he opened the pharmacy in The General Clinic which he operated until retirement. After retirement, Rog became a pilot and member of the National Ski Patrol. He was a lifetime member of the Sierra Club and led hiking trips in California.

He had a particular love for Yosemite National Park which always warmed his heart. He became an EMT and advanced to instructing local EMT instructors. He was an Eagle Scout and Order of the Arrow member.

A lifetime learner, he completed many courses at UW-Marathon after retirement. He served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict as a pharmacist for four years. He also completed fighter pilot training.

He enjoyed his “trip of a lifetime” in 2014 on the Never Forgotten Honor Flight. Being of German-Irish heritage, Roger enjoyed travel to both Ireland and Germany many times. Rog and his wife Kay belonged to the Pomerscher Verein of Central Wisconsin, and were members of the Pormmeranian Folk Dance troupe for a number of years.

They performed throughout the middle-west, New York, and Philadelphia. He was a past president of Antigo Rotary Club, member of Antigo Jaycees, and Chamber of Commerce. Rog sang in the Antigo SPEBSQA (barbershop chorus).

He was confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church and a lifelong member. Rog is survived by his wife Kay (Kuester) Doran whom he married in 1957 and his sister Mary Below of Brookfield, WI, nieces and nephews; Cheryl (Tim) Blair of Salt Lake City, Utah, Michelle Moore of Brookfield, WI, Carl (Mary) Below of Waukesha, WI, Reverend Mark (Barbara) Below of Fenton, MO, sister-in- law Mary-Beth Kuester of Clintonville, WI, great nieces and nephews; Alyse (Brad), Lauren (Jacob), Aaron (Jeanette), Samantha, Carrley, Joshua, Caleb, Elizabeth, Emily, Elly, great-great nephews; Luke, Nathaniel, and Samuel, special friends; Tammy and Mary King. He was preceded in death by parents Keyth and Esther (Luedtke) Doran, brother Curtis Doran, sister-in-law Lucy (Fisher) Doran, and brother- in-law Carl N. Below.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 12:00 noon at Strasser-Roller Funeral Home. Reverend David Karolus will officiate. Military honors will follow the service at the funeral home.
