Roger Hamilton Leuba ll passed away at his home at the age of 85 after a short bout of cancer on October 10, 2018, on a beautiful fall morning with the sun streaming in the bedroom window, filling it with light, warmth, and peace. Roger was born November 23, 1932 in Xenia, Green County, Ohio. He was the 3rd of 6 children born to Clarence James Leuba and Frances Eddy Briggs.
He grew up in Yellow Springs, Ohio where his father taught at Antioch College. He attended college at Miami University… Read More » in Oxford, Ohio. He married Alice Hoffman on December 25, 1949 and they had 5 daughters, Nancy Ann, Katheryn Lynn, Elaine Frances, Ann Hamilton, and Alison Gillam.
They divorced, and he later married Carol Ann Britton Gomes on May 13, 1960, his wife of 58 years. They had 3 daughters, Carrie Beth, Sharon Kay, and Laurie Ann, and a son, Roger Hamilton Leuba III, all of whom survive him. He is also survived by 28 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.
Roger was a happy, caring, fun-loving man. His greatest joy was doing things with and for his family. During his working years, he was in business and sales and even ran his own hardware store for 7 years.
He loved to travel, and visited all 50 states during his lifetime. His greatest joys were camping with family, and hiking…. everything was spectacular!
The mountains, Spectacular! The flowers, Spectacular! The streams, Spectacular!
The view, Spectacular! Climbing mountains, playing tennis and pool with friends, and rolling around on the floor with his grandkids and great-grandkids were his joy. Little Boy or Girl on the Mountain was a favorite!
He could always be counted on to lead the family sing-alongs around our many campfires. And boy, could that man dance. And dance.
And dance, anywhere, everywhere, sometimes much to the consternation of his children and total humor to his grandchildren. On a cruise ship by the pool in his swimsuit, at the demolition derbies down in the mud with hundreds of other people, all under the age of 20 except for him, standing in the bleachers to the warmup music of a sport that was starting. He had happy feet, because he had a happy heart, and was a happy man.
Roger was a very kind caring man. Always the first to help in times of need, and those that know him know that to be true. During the mudslides in Farmington in 1983, he and a neighbor were in charge of the entire cleanup operation.
He could always be counted on when a volunteer was needed. He was a volunteer for Options For Independence, driving people back and forth to Salt Lake on numerous occasions, and most of them were younger than him! He always had the physical and mental strength of a man 15 years younger than he really was.
He delivered for Meals on Wheels right up until his diagnosis with cancer, as he had no symptoms of the cancer, and passed 28 days from first sign that something was wrong. He loved helping out his fellow man. His children and grandchildren literally can’t remember a time that when they asked him for help, he didn’t say I’ll be right over.
In fact he’d say I’ll come right now, and we’d say no, in an hour is fine, and he’d be there in 10 minutes. He jumped at the opportunity to provide service to everyone. The greatest legacy he will leave his family, aside from his great love for them and the outdoors, is his unmatched selflessness.
So we say to you Happy Trails “Da”! And aren’t they Spectacular! A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 3, 2018 From 11-12 a.m. at Logan Golf And Country Club.
