Roger Wayne Bennett was born in Morris, Mn on June 10, 1942 to George & Myrtle Bennett. The Bennett family lived on a farm by Chokio, Mn until 1949 when they purchased a farm at Kensington, Mn. The family farm was later sold to the Anderson family & became Andes Tower Hills.

Rog attended country school #45 through 8th grade and graduated from Kensington High School in 1960. Growing up he spent many hours skiing in the winter with his brothers and neighbors. He also spent many summers working for Milt Josephs in his food stands frying hamburgers & traveling the carnival circuit.

Later he worked with Milt building houses in the area. On June 30, 1962 he was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart Judy Braaten. They resided in Minneapolis where Rog worked at Honeywell.

In November of 1963 they moved back to Kensington to start farming with Judy’s Dad, Erwin. He loved grain farming, milking cows and all the challenges it presented. It was here that they raised their family, Steven born in 1974, Pamela born in 1966, and Brian born in 1971.

Rog also served many years on the Nora Church council, the Nora Township board and the planning & zoning committee of Pope County. A member of the Kensington LCMC. He loved his family and always provided lots of fun & laughter.

All those who encountered him would leave feeling better about their day and with a big smile on their face. He enjoyed reading Western books, playing all kinds of card games with whist being his favorite and tending to his immaculate lawn which looked like a ball park. He was a dedicated husband, father & grandfather.

Rog passed away peacefully on April 26, 2018 at Grand Arbor in Alexandria, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. Those left to mourn his passing are his wife of 55 years, Judy, son Steve (Carolyn) of Marshall, daughter Pam (Pat) Waldorf of Carlos & son Brian (Corrine) of Alexandria. Also 6 grandchildren, Olivia (Ian)McGathey of Cambridge, Matt Bennett, student at Minnesota State Mankato, Taylor & Austin Bennett of Alexandria, Bennett & Danica Waldorf of Carlos.

Also brothers Ray (Elvira) of Kensington, Dick (Polly) of North Carolina, Lee (Kitty) of Virginia, Sister Barbara MacIver of Alexandria, Sister in Law Helga Bennett of Fargo, and Sister in Law Shirley of North Carolina and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, George & Myrtle, his father and mother in law, Erwin & Grace Braaten, his brothers Gary & Don, his brother in law Rodney MacIver and his sister in law Rosie Bennett. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 29th, from 3:00 – 6:00 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home and one hour prior at the church on Monday.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 30, 2018, 1:00 PM at Nora Lutheran Church in Kensington. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home.
