Roland R. Rosenbaum, 88, of Elk Point, South Dakota passed away on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 surrounded by family following a brief illness. Roland was born on November 28, 1929, in Elk Point to C. Adolphus and Anna (Mohr) Rosenbaum. He received his elementary education at Curry School District 6, Civil Bend Township and graduated from Elk Point High School in 1947.

Upon his discharge from the military, Roland returned to his family farm in Elk Point. He married Alta Lucile Sawtell on March 16, 1957.

He was known as a local historian. He did extensive research concerning the Lewis & Clark Expedition visit to the Elk Point area and wrote a book about Native Americans of the regions. Roland was also an avid postcard collector.

He also was involved in various organizations and boards. Roland is survived by his wife, Alta; his son, Eric (Rhonda) Rosenbaum of Dakota Dunes; his daughters, Kimberly (Robert) Baker of Elk Point and Kirsten (Bruce) Peterman of Broomfield, Co; his sister, Fern (Rosenbaum) Chicoine of Elk Point; his grandchildren, Emily Gunderson, Andrew Rosenbaum, Allison Lidholm, Brent Baker, Micah Baker, Alexander Peterman, Kaylyn Peterman, three great-grandchildren, and his cat, Penny. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Dorothy (Rosenbaum) Wilbur, his brothers-in-law, George Wilbur and Francis Chicoine.
