DEFOREST – Roland “Rollie” Ripp, age 84 passed away Saturday, October 13, 2018 at Waunakee Manor with family by his side. Rollie was born February 15, 1934 in the Town of Springfield, WI to parents, Alphonse and Elizabeth (Grosse) Ripp. Rollie married Mary M. Hoffman on May 8, 1958 in Waunakee.

He served five years in the U.S. Army Reserves until his honorable discharge in April 1963. Rollie was a lifetime dairy, hog and crop farmer. He was a faithful member of St. Olaf Parish, where he was active on the Parish Council.

He took pride in his achievement to the highest rank of Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. After retirement, he did maintenance and janitorial work for the church. In his younger years, Rollie enjoyed attending parties and celebrations, and taking pictures with his Polaroid camera.

In his later years, he found joy in mowing grass and watching the crops grow. Rollie is survived by his wife, Mary; children, Richard (Sue), Paul, Teresa (John) Strauss; step-grandson, Nicholas (Melissa) Strauss; step-great-grandchildren, Dominic and Lilly; honorary grandchildren, Kyle, Kaitlyn, Karson, Aydin; siblings, Romie, Jim (Mary Ellen), Joan Cavanaugh, Eileen (Herb) Statz, Joe (Katie), Mary Finger, Bill (Carol), Helen (Dennis) Radue; brother-in-law, Eugene Esser; many special nieces and nephews, family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Margaret Esser; sister-in-law, Margie; brothers-in-law, Jim Finger and David Cavanaugh.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, October 19, 2018 at ST. OLAF CATHOLIC CHURCH, 623 Jefferson Street, DeForest, WI, with Father Vincent Brewer presiding. Visitation will take place at CHURCH from 4:00-7:00 PM, Thursday, and again one hour prior to the Mass at church, Friday.
