Ronald D. Evans died September 30, 2018 being a resident of Expressions Memory Care in Enumclaw, Washington. He was 92 years old. Ronald was born to Ruth (Doner) and John Evans on March 7, 1926 in Onida, South Dakota.
Ron was the middle child of three siblings and was raised in the farming community of Agar and Onida, South Dakota. He graduated from Agar High School and was valedictorian of his class. Ron enlisted in the Army Air Force January 5th, 1944 with his service entry at Fort Logan Colorado.
He received the American Theatre Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal and was discharged December 10, 1945 at Lowry Field Colorado. Ronald and Edith I. White were married December 18, 1948 at the Methodist Church in Rapid City, South Dakota. They had 5 boys: Randal, Monte, Thomas, Mark and Russel and 1 daughter, Meredith.
Ron and Edith raised all of their kids on a farm between Agar and Onida, South Dakota. Ronald graduated from The South Dakota School of Mines in Rapid City in 1950 with a BS degree in Geological Engineering. He then worked for the Anaconda Copper Mining Company in Butte, Montana for eight years.
While in Butte he continued his education at Montana State College earning a BS degree in Secondary Education and taught math and physics at Butte High School for several years. He returned to the Agar-Onida community to resume farming and raising his six kids. In addition to farming, he taught at the Cass Country School and later at Onida High School.
Upon his retirement from farming he attended The University of South Dakota earning a Masters in Business Administration. Ron worked a couple of years in Pierre South, Dakota for the South Dakota Department of Transportation before moving to Rapid City, South Dakota and then onto Enumclaw, Washington in 1986 to be closer to his family also living in Washington State. During his retirement in Enumclaw he enjoyed climbing several of the local mountains.
His favorite was Mount Peak that he climbed in excess of 2000 times. He enjoyed many walks around his local residential block in addition to attending to his large lawn and garden. When living in Montana he enjoyed hunting big game animals and when living in South Dakota hunting pheasants.
He prided himself in being a good hunter. He enjoyed his eight grandkids: Erica, Matt, Mike, Kent, Amanda, Amber, Kelly and Joe and six great grandkids: Ariel, Kara, Jordyn, Nathan, McKenna and Ryker. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Ruth Evans, brother Oliver Evans, sister Irmel Hamm, his wife Edith and their daughter Meredith Reinhardt.
