Obituary for Ronald J. Newman UTICA – Ronald J. Newman, 82, entered into the arms of the Lord, on Monday, January 7, 2019, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center. Ronald was born on March 8, 1936, in Utica, the son of Edward and Bessie Bell Newman. He was a graduate of Whitesboro High School and received his Associate’s Degree from Mohawk Valley Technical Institute in 1957.
Ronald was named Man of the Year that same year. He was married for many years to Eleanor Flaherty. Ronald began his career with Sibley’s, Rochester and moved back to Utica to work at Mungers, Howland and finally retiring from Steinbach in 1990.
After his retirement, he became a full-time antique dealer. He was a past member of MVCC and Whitesboro Alumni Association Board of Directors. Ronald was charter president and life member of the New York Mills Optimists International, three-time elected board member of the New York Mills School Board, member of the Rosa Mystica House of Prayer, the Good News Foundation, St. Paul’s Rosary Guild, Holy Name Society of Our Lady of the Rosary and the Patron Club of Marygrove Retreat Center, Garden, MI.
Ronald loved his children and grandchildren. He was a faith-filled man who was extremely proud of his Irish heritage and cherished the time he spent in Puerto Rico. Surviving besides his former wife, Eleanor Flaherty Newman, Utica, are his six children, Karrie Bartlett, Whitesboro, Edward Newman, Rochester, NY, James Newman and Donna Lazore, Deerfield, David Newman and Diane Galle, Deerfield, NH, Mary Pegueros, Bellingham, MA, and Martin and Debra Newman, Tilton, NH; ten grandchildren, Casey and Dominica Bartlett, Merrideth and Neal Bartlett, Patrick and Annalise Pegueros, Brett, Elizabeth and McKenzie Newman, Toni Marie Lazore, Junior Thomas, Zachary Lazore and Kassie Misiaszek; great grandchildren, Jallani and Amaya Thomas, Blake and Kamilla Lazore; and many nieces and nephews.
Ronald was predeceased by son-in-law, Ollie Brown; his sister, Shirley and Mel Brown; sister, Joan and George Hill; brother, Edward and Dolores Newman and great grandchild, Dominic Lazore. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. at McGrath, Myslinski, Karboski & Nunn Funeral Directors, 470 French Rd. , Utica.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, Clinton, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Whitesboro.
