OBITUARY Ronald Logan Grubbs February 19, 1948 – July 15, 2018 Ronald Logan Grubbs, 70, of Dallas, Texas, passed away Sunday, July 15, 2018. A native of Dallas, Ron graduated from Jesuit College Preparatory School in 1966, then studied at University of Texas at Austin, receiving his Bachelor of Science from the school of Behavioral Sciences in 1971. He fell in love with Geology in an elective course during his senior year and went on to complete his degree and graduate studies in Geosciences from University of Texas at Dallas.

He married Evelyn Frances Bush of Dallas, Texas in 1975. They raised their three children in the Catholic faith at St Thomas Aquinas Church and School. Ron and Evelyn instilled a deep love of travel and natural beauty in their children through countless trips across the country, especially the National Parks, particularly Big Bend.

These epic journeys are a major influence on how his children and grandchildren see the world. Ron’s professional career as a petroleum geologist carried him around the world and allowed him to build enduring friendships with individuals on every continent. During his tenure as Senior Geologist at Degolyer and MacNaughton, he travelled to Far East Asia throughout the 1990s, and more recently delivered projects in Europe and Central Asia, especially Russia.

He mentored countless young geologists and maintained sharp technical skills throughout his career. He was an innovator in computer modeling, developing early computerized datasets for highly-detailed analysis. He was active in global and national professional associations, serving the American Association of Petroleum Geologists on the Advisory Board and as the President of the Energy Minerals division.

He maintained local professional certifications and served as President of the Dallas Geological Society. He received that organization’s Honorary Lifetime Membership and was honored with the Publication Award, having developed the organization’s website. Ron was an avid hunter and outdoorsman, teaching Hunter Safety and Responsibility course for the State of Texas.

He led scout troops for over twenty-five years and served as President of the Parents’ Association of St Thomas Aquinas. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn and their three children, Louise Crooks, Gretchen Hanner and Alex Grubbs; parents, Mary Catherine and Ernest Logan; 6 grandchildren, Evan Crooks, Azure Grubbs-Crawford, Irie Grubbs-Crawford, Thekla Brumder-Grubbs, Aurora Hanner, and Gaia Hanner; god-daughter, Judy Zafereo. He is also survived by his sister, Nora; brothers, Donald and John; and nine nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Ernest. Services for Ron Grubbs will be held at St Thomas Aquinas Church on July 19, 2018, 10:30am Rosary, 11:00am Mass. In lieu of flowers, please donate to either the Dallas Geological Society Scholarship Fund, which he founded, or the American Brain Tumor Association.
