A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Edward P. Noga at 10 a.m. on Friday at St. Patrick’s Church for Rosalie Marie Mahoney, 80, who passed away peacefully Tuesday morning at the Humility House. Rosalie was born on June 16, 1938 in Youngstown, a daughter of John and Annabelle Staub Anderson.

She was a graduate of the 1956 class of Ursuline High School and a 1960 graduate of Notre Dame College in Cleveland where she received a B.S. degree in foods and nutrition. She completed her dietetic internship in 1961 at Hines Veteran’s Hospital in Hines, Ill. , receiving pediatric training at cook county Hospital and psychiatric training at Great lakes Navel Base, both in Chicago.

She began her career as a registered licensed dietitian as a Nutrition consultant to long term care facilities (nursing homes) with the State Department of Health in Richmond, Virginia. She then attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she graduated in 1966 with a Master’s degree in Nutrition and Public Health. She also attained credits from UNC toward a Doctorate Degree, conducting a nutrition research project in the Appalachian area of North Carolina.

In 1969 Rosalie began work as a nutrition consultant in the Akron district at the Ohio Department of Health. She planned and organized nutrition programs for health professionals, local health department nurses and administrator, school and industrial nurses. With the closing of the nutrition division in 1991, she became a health care facilities surveyor.

After retiring in 2001, she redirected her efforts to the private sector, taking a position at Windsor house corporation where she retired in 2009. She was also a part time instructor at Youngstown State University, from 1987 to 1992 where she educated nursing and nutrition students. Her professional career was focused in care, especially for the elderly; her greatest joy came from a smile from the residents or being called their friend.

Rosalie was a member of American Dietetic Association and the Ohio Public Health Association. She was an accomplished seamstress and avid dessert maker. She and her loving companion Frank loved dancing and attended many of the local dances, through the states and the Caribbean.

Her legacy is her deep faith in God and her love and commitment for family and friends. She leaves to hold onto her memories the love of her life and soul-Mate Frank Campbell of Youngstown, her niece Jacqueline Hurst, her great niece Brittney; her very special cousins, Michael & Pauline Dorbish, Celeste Guanitz; Neil and Buffy Guerrieri; Allison and Dave Price, Marianne and Dave Palter. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her step- father, William J. Sause, her brother, John (Andy) Anderson, Jr. her beloved Aunt and Uncle, Mary and Michael Dorbish and her beloved cousin, Kathleen Dorbish Guierrie.

Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Fox Funeral Home 4700 Market St. Boardman. The family has requested that material tributes be made to St. Patrick’s Church 1420 Oak Hill Ave. Youngstown, Oh.
