Rose Anne Meagher Borden December 19, 1919 – January 18, 2019 Share this obituary View/Sign Guest Book| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Rose Anne Meagher Borden (1919-2019) Rose Anne Borden passed away on Jan. 18, 2019, at the Foss Home and Village at the age of 99. She was born Rose Anne Meagher in Omaha, Nebraska on December 19, 1919.

Her family came West in the 1930s. She attended Los Angeles City College and completed a nursing course at Queen of Angels Hospital in Los Angeles. The US Army recruited her in 1944 and as a newly graduated RN, she served in the South Pacific Theater.

She was in the Battle of Okinawa and later in Korea in the immediate aftermath of the War. After the War, she went seeking adventure in Alaska and worked as an RN in the Territory. She met and married Piersol G. Borden.

They were married for 48 years until his death in 1996. They raised a family of four and she worked at the University of Washington Hospital as an RN for many years. On retirement, she completed a bachelor’s degree in American History followed by a master’s degree.

She was active in the St. Vincent de Paul Society and Catholic Charities. She became a Lay Carmelite in her later years. Rose Anne was predeceased by her husband, Piersol Borden, and her son, Joseph Meagher Borden.

She is survived by three of her children, Melissa Borden (Stuart Deal), Therese Borden (Guy Gran), and James Borden (Jerry); daughter- in- law, Sally Marks; nine grandchildren and their spouses (Ariel Waite, Rowan Borden-Deal, Dylan Borden-Deal, Melissa Borden Gran, Alexander Borden Gran, Whitney Dale Borden, Seamus Borden, Patrick Borden, and Kailey Borden; and 6 great-grandchildren. Rose Anne was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and was especially fond of her wonderful sons- and daughters- in-law and their families, as well as the spouses of her grandchildren. She will be remembered as the heart and soul of our family, the life of the party, and the warm and witty mother and grandmother.

In lieu of flowers, Rose Anne would appreciate remembrances in her name to the Foss Home and Village, the staff of which took excellent care of her in her later years.
