Glamb February 06, 1922 – January 21, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| View Guest Book Entries| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Rose Glamb passed peacefully in the night Monday, January 21. She lived a full life, enjoying relatively good health for most of her 97 years. She shared she was ready to go and navigated her last journey in this life with her usual grace, poise, and a certain pizzazz.

She was born in the US to immigrant parents and was raised speaking Polish as her first language, attending a Polish-language grammar school in Detroit. Her first husband died in a tragic accident, leaving Rose a young widow with two young children to raise. She worked the cosmetic counter at Sears.

She remarried 2 years later and later in life she started as a per diem waitress for General Motors in Detroit. Her talents were recognized, and she eventually became Assistant Manager of the Executive Dining Room. Rose was a golfer, card player, walking enthusiast and swimmer.

At age 88, she climbed up to a friend’s tree house! Rose participated in Water Exercise classes until 2014 when she had brain surgery due to a traumatic fall. So, at 92, she learned to walk and talk again.

She then became a resident of The Pines Assisted Living and walked after every meal, with her walker …outside when the weather was good. There she received great care and participated in many activities. At age 85, Rose joined her daughter, son-in-law, and seven other family members, ages from 8-85, to Sicily.

She kept the pace and, indeed, most times had more energy than her traveling companions. Her roommate had to draw a hard line insisting Rose not take a top bunk in their sleeping accommodations. Rose embraced the Italian relatives, and they were awed by her spirit and friendliness.

Rose eventually called Wisconsin her home after being first a snowbird, then permanent resident of Arizona. She was ever cheerful, ready to take part in any adventure, always thoughtful of others and enjoyed her life. Into her 90s, Rose remained active, good-humored, tough, and beautiful despite her failing eye sight, hearing & memory.

Friends and family always found her well-dressed and easy to be with. She enjoyed Sunday breakfasts at the Roxbury Tavern, taking in the scenery from the back porch of her daughter’s country home (with a beloved dog and cats snuggling close), giving paraffin hand spa treatments at her daughter’s business events, and playing her favorite card game, Kings in the Corner. Her presence will linger in these spaces long after her passing; she will be missed.

Rose was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and son-in-law. She leaves her children, Linda Bishop and Robert Bishop, two nieces, a nephew and their families. Rose also held dear many friends, who celebrate a life well lived even though they are sad to say a final goodbye.

To celebrate her life, the family asks you consider an act of kindness in remembrance of Rose. In particular, if there’s an old lady in your life you feel lucky to know, bring her a bar of chocolate.
