OBITUARY Rosemarie Lydia Born Scott December 16, 1931 – September 12, 2018 Play Tribute Movie Rosemarie (Rose) Scott, 86, of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2018. Rose was born on December 16, 1931, in Port Lavaca, Texas, to the late Henry and Lydia Olga (Schulle) Born, the sixth of nine children. Growing up, Rose worked on her father’s farm.
Her childhood home had no electricity or indoor plumbing. She graduated from Vanderbilt High School in Vanderbilt, Texas. Rose met her husband, Robert W. Scott (Bobby), during her high school years, when he happened to see her as he parked next to her father’s car in front of a grocery store.
Bobby thought she was the most beautiful girl he had ever seen. One thing led to another, and Rose married Bobby on Christmas Eve 1951, while he was on leave from the Army. After returning to civilian life they lived in Beaumont, South Louisiana, then Houston, where Bobby joined Gulf Publishing Co. as an engineering editor, later becoming President, Chairman, and CEO.
Rose was a world traveler – she circled the globe seven times, visiting 23 foreign countries and 19 foreign capitals – some multiple times, and rode supersonic Concorde twice. Her favorite cities were Hong Kong, Singapore and San Antonio. Rose was a skilled seamstress, avid card player, reader of mysteries, and crossword puzzle fan.
She was a 60-year member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church where she sang like an angel in the choir. She loved her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and was a wonderful wife and mother. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Bobby, son Robert, Jr. (Leedell), daughter Marilee (Larry Davis), grandchildren Dianne Friedl (Andrew), Melissa McElwee (Steve), Robert L. Scott (Rachel), great-grandchildren Drew and Henry Friedl, Conor and Gavin McElwee, Robert James Scott (Olivia Rose Scott is on the way), sisters Erna Prukop and Dorothy Anderson (Jerry), brother Clarence Born, and numerous nieces and nephews.
