Rosemary (Torres) Gwynn passed away peacefully surrounded by her family February 10, 2019 in Eureka MT. She was born September 22, 1939 in Eureka MT to Esteniloy and Genevieve (Enders) Torres. Rosemary was raised and attended grade school in old Rexford along with her 11 siblings, Joyce Boone, Don Farrel, Tony Torres, Richard Torres, Arnie Torres, Maggie King, Josephine Anderson, Kathy Setter, Helen Ward, Delores Torres and Gary Torres.
Rosie attended high school in Eureka and graduated in 1958, she also attended a trade school in Spokane for a couple years. Rosie married Mike Gwynn on October 5, 1961 in Coeur d’ Alene Idaho and they later divorced in the early 1980’s. Their son Marvin Jay Gwynn (Butch) was born June 22, 1962 at Fort Hood, Texas while Mike was on active duty.
Mike and Rosie managed the Ksanka Motor Inn Motel and Service Station from 1965 to 1971. Rosie was the brains and brawn behind the management of the motel and worked from daylight till dark while still raising a family. A lot of the gals that worked for Rosie cleaning rooms and doing laundry said she was fun to work for but could also rule with an iron fist.
One favorite story of the time, as with most motels, a customer showed up after 2 am Rosie went to wait on whomever, a ruckus occurred and when all was said and done Rosie had her back against the counter, her feet against the door with Chick Sume’s head pinched between the door frame and door and Chick yelling, Dang it Rosie I just want a shot of whiskey. Rosie also worked a few years at Montana Market. In 1971 she and Mike moved to a new place at the head water of the Tobacco River where she lived until April 2018.
In the late 80’s Rosie met the love of her life Ray Swanson. Ray and Rosie lived together along with their number one child a rottweiler named Sasha, until Rays death in April 2017. Rosie was a Corporate Officer, on the Board of Directors and a tractor trailer owner at Gwynn lumber & Reload Inc. since the corporation was formed in 1977.
She also owned and operated the Eureka Liquor store for a number of years until her retirement. One thing Rosie was famous for was the many Christmas stockings she made for many of the local kids. Some of these kids are now grandparents so she had been making them for along time.
She made her 132nd and final one in December 2017 for a little fella by the name of Thomas Augustus Luciano. Although she struggled to make this one, Rosie was bound and determined and did finish her last stocking before Christmas 2017. Survivors include her son, Butch Gwynn (Barbie); three sisters, Maggie King, Josephine Anderson and Delores Torres; sisters in law, Bee Gee Cole (Mike) and Patsy Ramesz; grandchildren Brea Gwynn, Paige Pisk (Jackson), and Jay Hoover; great grandchildren Audie, Zoey, Lia, Abel, Sawyer and Elias and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers Rosie would like memorials made to the Tobacco Valley Animal Shelter, PO Box 1815, Eureka, MT 59917. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Mountain View Manor for the excellent care provided over the past two years.
